The vibrant Leiden bioscience ecosystem attracts large international companies to set-up their business operations in Europe

Highly educated region

Leiden University – the oldest in the Netherlands – is an internationally renowned and ranked knowledge hub, guaranteeing a highly educated and qualified work force. The region is known to have the highest well-educated residents in the Netherlands.

Many international students also live and study in Leiden. Furthermore, Dutch professionals are among the most multilingual in the world, enabling them to work successfully in companies serving customers across the continent.

Leiden, city of discoveries

Leiden is an attractive environment to work and live in. It is an internationally oriented, young and culturally rich city. Home to the oldest university in the Netherlands. Which is why Leiden – twin city with Oxford – has a long tradition of knowledge & science.

No less than 15 Nobel Prize winners are affiliated with Leiden. Leiden has a beautiful and vibrant city centre, seeped in history with many canals, 3,000 monuments and a variety of restaurants and cafés. It boasts 12 world-class museums with amazing exhibitions on antiquity, the arts, nature, science and anthropology.

Quality of life

Leiden’s location is ideal. Large cities and the international airports are at close proximity and easily accessible due to a solid infrastructure. Smaller municipalities such as Leiderdorp, Voorschoten and Oegstgeest are around the corner.

Each village has a characteristic centre and various housing estates where many (young) families reside. The Leiden region offers space, as well as good facilities like international schools. Over 12,000 working internationals have settled with their families in and around Leiden. The Leiden region scores highly in terms of safety and quality of living.
